Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that all would be well if elections were held once again in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier this year, Home Minister Amit Shah had said that polls would be conducted after the delimitation exercise was over, following consultation with political parties. If election happens in Kashmir and the power is given in the hands of people, then I believe all will be well, the senior Congress leader opined today after offering namaz at the Parliament Street Mosque in Delhi to mark Eid Ul Fitr. It s a matter of joy to get some relief from COVID 19 finally. People reached the road because of space constraints...may walls of hatred break for eternity, he added.Jammu and Kashmir has remained under President s Rule since June 2018, when the BJP quit the Mehbooba Mufti led coalition government with the PDP. The The Modi government had eventually bifurcated the state into union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh in August 2019.Presently, Jammu and Kashmir is an Union Territory with a legislative assembly that remains under President s Rule. While officials have repeatedly assured that elections would eventually be held in the state, there is no defined timeline available at this point.

Recent reports however suggest that the Delimitation Commission is going to submit its final report within days. We have no interest in keeping Jammu and Kashmir under President s Rule, Shah said in Lok Sabha at the end of March this year. He was responding to concerns raised by members on Kashmir during discussions on the Delhi Municipal Corporation Amendment Bill. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had also voiced concern for the state of affairs in Jammu and Kashmir recently, contending that the area was passing through a difficult phase . The security situation is a cause of concern, there s no area in Kashmir that is free from militancy. There is very little economic activity barring tourism. Jammu and Kashmir has high unemployment levels, he had sadi last week.
