Amid continuing disruptions of proceedings by the Opposition, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday suspended four protesting Congress MPs for the rest of the ongoing Parliament session. The lower house was then adjourned till Tuesday.The Opposition, led by the Congress and Trinamool Congress, carried on with their demonstrations inside the lower house on the issues of inflation and levying of Goods And Services Tax on food items, leading to an adjournment till 3 pm after the lunch recess.Appealing to the Opposition, Birla said the people wanted Parliament to function and the government was ready to discuss issues raised by the Opposition.The suspended Congress MPs are Manickam Tagore, TN Prathapan, Jothimani and Ramya Haridas. Opposition MPs, however, continued their protests, raising slogans and marching to the well flashing placards. The government is ready to discuss issues raised by the Opposition. The people want the Parliament to function, Birla told the protesting MPs. He said if members wanted to protest with placards, they could do so outside the house, warning that placards would not be allowed inside.

It will resume on Tuesday at 11 am.Parliamentary affairs minister Prahlad Joshi requested the Speaker to disqualify MPs who trooped into the well and were holding placards inside the house.Congress MP Manickam Tagore gave an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha to discuss 5 per cent GST on items such as pre packed and pre labelled food grains, curd, butter and milk etc. If you want to protest with placards, do it outside the house. Don t take my kind heartedness for my weakness, the Speaker said before suspending the four Congress MPs.
